The surprising benefit of integrating work with life

Why would anyone take on a challenge to blog for ten days in a row in response to someone else’s blog? Especially when one is on vacation. Isn’t blogging work? Canadian and North American culture have an ingrained belief that work and vacation don’t mix, and that belief has set us all up for a crazy unbalanced lifestyle. I started Teneo Consulting Inc. five years ago with the idea of integrating my work and life so I could stop worrying about work-life balance. When canning offers a surprising why

Once a year between running a business and living life, I am overcome by the urge to pickle or can produce. If I were wise I'd institute a twenty-four hour cooling off period between when the idea assaults me and the time I take action on it. But, I am not all that wise. So once a year I find myself in the kitchen surrounded by heaps of produce and the paraphernalia for canning. And in the chaos I wonder why I thought it was a good idea. I'm not a highly domesticated human and I prefer solving a complex business or life puzzle to seeing rows of jars in a cold cellar. I don't need to can produce to preserve the fruits of a large garden. It is difficult for me to identify a logical reason for undertaking a canning venture. The only reason I have come up with is that the peach-blueberry jam is divine and canning is another challenge. Surprise! Spring and love are in the air

It has happened again, and every year it still amazes me. Overnight the swake goes from being a brown, leafless, scruffy looking place to vibrant shades of green. The shrubs and trees are not fully leafed but they take on colors and it challenges you to ask yourself if you are really seeing the truth or if you are viewing the world through your own "I wish it was" perspective. The first goose has arrived and bravely stood alone on the ice full of optimism that soon there would be open water, certain in the knowledge that the rest of his flock was coming right behind him. Or her! When I saw that first brave goose I began to lift my eyes to see whether the plants around me had received the message yet. Spring had arrived. It was time to pop those leaves and get on with it! Within days the poplars stopped looking brown; they began to have a neon green appearance. The pussy willows burst out softening the landscape.
