Dear You,
It's been seven years since we first began meeting every Saturday morning, connected by strings of words and stories over the internet. I just did a trip down memory lane because it's that time of year and I am of the age when trips into the past become more frequent. In the beginning, there was one blog with only four views and those were probably my husband, mum, mother-in-law, and a sister. If you ever need to be humbled, try writing a blog then waiting to see if anyone reads it and cares enough to respond.
Try doing it weekly for seven years. Assuming you have the gumption to start and the persistence to continue, you will be humbled by the response to posts which strike a chord. As the blog gained traction, I was thrilled to have you return and bring your friends. Slowly a loyal following was built of greater than four readers! I was thankful for your faithfulness and loved your willingness to comment because writing is a lonely business and publishing it to the internet is positively fraught with insecurities. In the very first post I likened blogging to inviting people to a party then wondering if anyone would show up. Dealing with the scary thoughts never got any easier. But I wrestled them to the keyboard most weeks, emerging with one more post and a sense of accomplishment.
However, it is time to say good-by to the blog and hello to whatever new thing is hovering in the wings asking me to make space in my life for it to come to fruition. I don't know what the new writing related thing is yet. But I do know it is time to move along. Lots of crazy ideas are rolling around and I need some room to think and let the good ones settle. I'm pondering going old school with a twist of technology. Have you ever wished someone, anyone, would send you an old style letter snail mail? Something you could hold in your hand and read as many times as you wanted without having to log in? What if instead of reading a weekly blog, you received a monthly letter in the mail from me?
